History

A grand wedding gift, presented from father to son, Overhills Mansion reflects the architectural vision of our great-grandparents generation.

Antique Overhills Mansion Relief
and Dentil Motifs

Henry James, a Baltimore lumber tycoon, commissioned the construction of the Mansion to present to his son, Norman, as a wedding gift. The Mansion is a showcase of the senior James’ fine imported & domestic hardwoods … from the delicate egg and dart and dentil motifs found throughout, the fruitwood and teak paneling in the ballroom, to the massive yet stately columns that support the portico.

Grace and elegance abound!

The lower level of the grand ballroom, with its teak paneling & period lighting sconces, was added in the 1920’s.

The Mansion has been lovingly restored and maintains approximately 75% of the original appointments.
